Chipboard is also an extremely environmentally friendly option, comprising as it does recycled timber particles such as sawmill shavings and wood chips. It is much more resource efficient than solid wood, and ideal for general interior applications and joinery work which doesn’t demand an aesthetic statement.

 

Blockboard can be used in much the same way: composed of a core of softwood strips which are glued together and sandwiched between veneers of hardwood, it makes the ideal material for shelves, doors, panelling and partitions.
